Safeguarding & Inclusion

Safeguarding

The Yorkshire Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding* and promoting the welfare and safety of children. The Trust expects all staff, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment.

*Protecting children from maltreatment, preventing the impairment of children's health or development, and ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

The Trust aims to provide a caring, positive, safe, and stimulating environment, that promotes the social, physical, and moral development of the individual child, where every pupil/student in the Trust feels secure, well cared for, and able to reach their full potential.

Every member of staff has a collective recognition of the importance of providing an environment that helps children feel safe and respected, and a culture that encourages children to talk openly and have confidence that they will be listened to.

The Trust understands and is committed to the vital contribution that all Trustees, Governors, staff, parents, and students can make to safeguarding children. Every adult is expected to play their part in safeguarding our children and young people. Each school supports this through its provision of safeguarding and child protection training.

If you are concerned about the welfare of a pupil/student at any of our schools or wish to alert the Trust to any safeguarding concern, please contact the relevant Designated Safeguarding Lead in each school. Details can be found on each school website or in our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy on our Policies Page.

Inclusion & SEND

Our vision is for every child and young person in our schools to be fully included, happy, and thrive in their education and community, so that they can develop independence, lead fulfilling lives, and achieve outcomes that are important to them.

This is clearly reflected in our vision:

“Excellence in Every Journey”

We are dedicated to providing high-quality, inclusive education that empowers every young person to achieve their full potential. By fostering collaboration among diverse school settings and communities, YLT aims to deliver exceptional educational experiences that are responsive to the needs of all learners.

We hold the child at the centre of all of our work. All children are unique, and we work to ensure they all achieve their very best. We look at the whole child and are mindful that one of the most impactful experiences for our learners with a special educational need and/or disability is high-quality, inclusive teaching.

Our schools strive to be places of aspiration, where individuals, including all children with a special educational need and/or disability. matter and their confidence flourishes. We have a responsibility to ensure that all children and young people with SEND are provided with the education, experiences, and skills to lead full and meaningful lives, without constraint or cap on their ambition.
