The Great Science Share: Inspiring young scientists
We’re excited to announce that over 200 students from schools across the Yorkshire Learning Trust are joining together to take part in The Great Science Share.
Taking place at The Education Exchange, the event forms part of a national campaign for students from Reception to Year 6 to discover science through exploration.
Inspiring young people to think and work like real scientists, our students will be invited to investigate ideas, ask questions, and share their scientific thinking with others.
Ask, Investigate, Share
Following the theme of ‘Ask, Investigate, Share’, students will get the chance to showcase their own science investigations through hands-on activities and on-stage presentations.
Throughout the day, students will explore scientific concepts, communicate their findings and demonstrate curiosity that drives scientific thinking by exploring questions like:
What would happen if…?
How does it work?
Why does that happen?
What can we discover?
Building skills for the future
The Great Science Share offers a valuable opportunity for pupils to develop a range of important skills including:
Teamwork
Communication
Confidence-building
Problem-solving
Critical thinking
By encouraging children to ask questions and seek evidence-based answers, the event helps bring science to life in an engaging and meaningful way, showing how their learning extends beyond the classroom and into the world around them. It inspires pupils to stay curious, explore how things work, and recognise the important role science plays in everyday life.
Connecting science-based learning to the wider world
The event aims to inspire future generations of scientists, engineers, and innovators, helping students to understand how STEM learning can open doors to a wide range of opportunities beyond school.
Supported by The Ogden Trust
We’re grateful for the support of The Ogden Trust, a charity founded by Sir Peter Ogden, that is dedicated to the teaching and of learning physics education and making STEM-related education accessible for all.
Through this partnership, The Ogden Trust has provided funding to support our students’ participation at The Great Science Share, including transport to and from the event.
Their support helps ensure that pupils across YLT can come together to take part in this exciting experience, share their leanings and collectively celebrate scientific enquiry.
‘A fantastic opportunity’
‘The Great Science Share is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore their curiosity, communicate their ideas and celebrate scientific learning together.
By giving pupils the platform to ask questions, investigate and share their discoveries, we hope to inspire greater enthusiasm for science and STEM pathways from an early age.’
