The Yorkshire Kitchens name and logo were created by the people who know our schools best: our students.  

Through a Trust-wide competition, students helped create a brand that celebrates great food, local roots, and our shared Yorkshire identity. The name and logo bring those values to life and reflect the creativity, pride, and community spirit of our schools.

Allergens

‍Primary Schools

‍At Yorkshire Kitchens, we work closely with parents, schools and our school meals teams to ensure that children with food allergies, intolerances, medical dietary requirements, religious diets or lifestyle choices receive safe and suitable meal options.

‍The school will ask parents or carers to complete an Allergy and Dietary Requirements Form. Information provided on the form is reviewed by our Executive Chef, who will create an appropriate menu. This menu will then be assigned within ParentPay and the meal selector system. Where necessary, individual dietary requirements may also be discussed directly with families.

‍Our kitchen teams receive specialist allergen training and prepare meals in accordance with strict procedures. Individual meals are prepared in advance, clearly labelled and monitored to help ensure children receive the correct meal each day.

‍While we take every reasonable precaution, allergens are used within some food products and kitchens. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that any meal is completely free from traces of allergens.

‍Secondary Schools

‍Students in our secondary schools are supported to manage their own dietary requirements and allergies. Detailed allergen information and product specifications are available online and at the point of service, enabling students to make informed choices about the food they purchase.

‍Students with food allergies or special dietary requirements should make staff aware of their needs when ordering food. Our teams are trained in allergen awareness and can provide guidance on suitable menu options.

‍Parents and carers should notify their child's school of any allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements through the school's usual communication channels. Relevant information will then be shared with the school meals team and recorded on our till system to help support safe meal provision.

‍Yorkshire Kitchens follows strict food safety procedures, uses approved suppliers and maintains up-to-date allergen information for all menu items. However, because allergens are present in our kitchens and supply chains, we cannot guarantee that foods are entirely free from allergen traces.

‍For complex dietary requirements, bespoke meal arrangements may be discussed directly with parents, carers and our school meals team where appropriate.

Free school meals

Expanded entitlement for families on Universal Credit From the start of academic year 2026 to 2027, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to free school meals, regardless of earnings.

Going forward, there will be two types of eligibility:

• Targeted FSM: for households in receipt of universal credit earning £7,400 or less (includes free meals and additional support such as pupil premium). Other educational entitlements such as the Holiday Activities and Food program (HAF) and the ‘extended rights’ element of school travel assistance, will also continue to be based on targeted FSM.

• Expanded FSM: for households in receipt of universal credit earning above £7,400 (free meals only)

Families with no recourse to public funds may also be eligible for Targeted FSM subject to meeting separate criteria. All pupils in reception, year 1 and year 2 will also continue to be entitled to free school meals under the universal infant free school meals policy regardless of family circumstances.

Food Hygiene Ratings

Biometrics

Our secondary schools use biometric recognition technology as part of their cashless system. The technology converts a finger scan into a unique numerical code to identify students when purchasing food and drink. No fingerprint images are stored. Participation is voluntary, and alternative methods of identification are available. Biometric data is processed in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, stored securely, and used only for the administration of school meal services. Parents/carers may withdraw consent at any time.
