The Great Science Share: A day celebrating science together
A great day was had at The Great Science Share, where over 200 students from Yorkshire Learning Trust came together for an inspiring day of science and collaboration on Tuesday 16th June.
The Great Science Share for Schools is a national campaign created to empower young people to understand the big role that science plays in the wider world and can also provide a range of opportunities beyond school.
From hands-on experiments to interactive investigations, our students from Year 1 to Year 6 embraced the opportunity to ask questions, explore new ideas, and share their scientific thinking.
Science in action
Held at The Education Exchange, this was YLT's fourth time attending the annual The Great Science Share.
Based on this year's theme, Ask, Investigate, Share, pupils confidently showcased their own scientific thinking, explored new ideas and discovered the role science plays beyond the classroom.
Engaging curious minds
From exploring the human body to taking part in practical investigations and presentations, there were plenty of opportunities for pupils to get involved during the event.
Whether presenting their own work, visiting stalls, or learning something entirely new, our students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and confidence.

"I liked looking around the stalls and enjoyed finding my pulse."
“We got to eat sweets and make blood!"
"Everyone was very friendly and I liked learning about science."
It's safe to say there were plenty of memorable and intriguing moments.
Inspiring a next generation of scientists
The event was much more than just a day of activities. It encouraged our students to think like scientists, build curiosity and confidence in their ideas, and demonstrate how STEM learning can lead to exciting opportunities beyond school.
Following our recent merger of STAR Multi Academy Trust and South York Multi Academy Trust, the event provided a great opportunity for students from nine schools across YLT to unite, share their learning and celebrate science together as one Trust.
"Over 200 children engaging in science."
Reflecting on the day, Vicky Walsh, The Ogden Trust Partnership Lead for Yorkshire Learning Trust and teacher at Monk Fryston C of E Primary School, said:
"From my perspective, the event was a big success. We had nine schools taking part, so there were over 200 children engaging in science. That is quite mind-blowing. I was also so impressed by the variety and quality of the science being presented, and the confidence with which the children spoke about their learning. I love seeing the children's faces when they arrive and walk into that huge space, with the stalls, the stage and the lighting. They have the biggest grin on their faces that doesn't leave them all day."
The fun was shared with our staff too, Vicky added:
"One of the teachers, who was taking part for the first time, told me it was a fantastic experience for the children, and a great opportunity to be involved in such a big event."

The Great Science Share 2027
Following the success of our day spent at the event, plans are already underway for an even bigger Great Science Share in 2027; we can't wait to do it all again!
